An imposing Northern French carved figure of a Saint, circa 1450 – 1500. The quality of the carving is first rate with a gentle expressiveness in the facial looks, and superbly executed carving of the hair, beard and robes. There is a significant amount of original polychrome underneath a later covering of white pigment, probably 18th Century. He has lost his feet, and both lower arms and it is probable that he would have held a staff or crook in his right hand. There is significant insect damage to the back of the figure, but the density of the wood is very solid. The plinth is later.

Dimensions:  Height 93 centimetres, Width 33 centimetres, Depth 15 centimetres.
