The glass lens surrounded by a moulded circular border. With a rosewood shaped turned baluster handle, set at an angle to facilitate picking it up easily.

A hand-held gallery glass such as this one would have been held at arm's length to view paintings hung high up in densely-hung picture galleries or to see the titles of books on the upper shelves of a library.
