Condition report
A powerful and well observed primitive still life, executed in vibrant and appealing colours. The abundant leafy cabbage has is bathed in light, picking out its stalks and wrinkles, resting on a bright side of bacon with well executed details. The Georgian green stained ivory cutlery is well balanced with the angle of the cabbage and helps anchor the composition, set on the corner angle of a square leg provincial kitchen table. Painted in oils on original unlined canvas retaining the original stretchers, there is evidence of much craquelure and stretcher line marks. The surface has been professionally cleaned of surface dirt and historic discoloured varnish and has been lightly revarnished. The frame is original to the work and has delightfully primitive "faux bois" painted surface. This is a strong naive work with presence and atmosphere, by a previously unrecorded and untrained artist.Stock number
