A very fine Nain carpet woven around 1960 these carpets are very highly regarded for both their quality and designs. This signed workshop carpet would have been designed by a master weaver on paper (called a cartoon) which would be alongside the loom to aid the weavers. This Nain carpet has a lot of silk defining the design around the elaborate intricate floral motifs and scrolling fines.

Nain is a town 150km to the east of Isfahan in central Iran; it is relatively new to the carpet world compared to ancient weaving centres such as Kashan, Isfahan and Yazd. Although it started out producing Isfahan carpets, in the mid 1930s Nain began developing its own style. Very fine and precise designs were created due to the high quality of the workshops in the area.
