A Good Quality Mid 19th Century Mahogany And
Camphor Wood Military Campaign Chest Having Well
Figured Top And Original Brass Bound Decoration To
Two Short & Three Long Drawers Retaining Original
Flush Fitted Brass Handles Raised On
Replacement Turned Feet

(Military campaign chests as the name suggests
were originally made for easy transportation around
various battlefields. A few of the specific features for
this purpose are the two part construction for ease of
movement, the flush fitted brass handles and the
brass bound decoration, designed to ensure there
are as few bit "poking out" that could potentially be
snagged or caught on other things during the moving
process as possible. This particular chest is made from
a combination of mahogany on the outside and camphor
wood one the inside. The use of camphor wood does of
course offer the added bonus of a pleasant aroma
inside the drawers when opened and this was actually
originally a specific design feature to keep away
moths and other insects/bugs.)
