An extremely attractive mid 19th century Italian gilt mirror, in the Florentine taste. Having elegant, profusely carved, pierced frame enclosing bevelled later mirror plate.

Absolutely perfect to fill a reasonable size gap on any wall and brighten up any room, this delightful mirror has superbly executed carving to the frame.

The current condition is very much presentable and good, although it should be noted that throughout its history there has been a significant amount of breaks and therefore repairs to tvarious areas around the frame. That said there have all been extremely well repaired and great care has been taken to preserve the integrity and overall look of the piece. It is actually most unusual to find this type of mirror, from this period in such a good, presentable condition.

The mirror plate itself is relatively recent, early 20th century, and there is a strong possibility that the carved frame itself started its life designed to hold a painting, only to be relatively quickly converted into the attractive wall mirror which we see today.

It’s also worth noting that the mirror is designed in such a way that it will happily hang portrait or landscape, which of course significantly enhances the available functionality of this piece.

Circa 1850.

Height 34in.
Width 38.5in.
