Mid 18th century mahogany tripod table.

The circular 2 cm/0.75in thick, tilt-top is made from a solid piece of mahogany with beautiful flame figuring. Unusually, the tilt-top mechanism and brassware are original.

The stem with fine column and vase shaped turnings carved with ring and linear decoration. Standing on a tripod base with three sweeping cabriole legs. Exceptional colour, figuring and patina.

Circa 1740.

Measures: Diameter 84.50 cm., 33.25 in.
Height 72.50 cm., 28.50 in.

The flame figuring revealed by slicing through the face of the branch at the point where it joins another element of the tree.

It is an expensive cutting technique given the small number of major branches on any trunk. It is a hallmark of quality in furniture construction and is highly-prized for its inherent beauty.
