A very good quality late 19th century mahogany kidney shaped Writing Desk, having attractive replaced gilt tooled leather inset top.

Over nine drawers with original brass handles and crossbanded inlay decoration, raised on elegant square tapering legs with original brass castors.

This lovely quality and functional desk has real elegance and class and would add to absolutely any room it is set in.

Kidney Shaped desks are always very popular as they have such elegance and can stand centrally, but also against a wall if absolutely necessary.

Another thing which people like about them is that everything is within reach and when sat right at it you can almost feel like you are enclosed within a cockpit whilst knuckling down to work.

The leather on this desk is a modern replacement as you would expect for something that has been being used throughout its life, but both the handles and castors are original which is a nice tough.

The overall quality is very good with solid mahogany drawer linings in place which suggest it would have been made in a pretty high end workshop of the time as not many of the workshops could afford to buy solid mahogany and then use it as an unseen secondary timber.

As a result of course the drawers still run beautifully and are as absolutely fit for purpose as the rest of this incredibly elegant, functional desk.
