A Louis XVI Style Gilt-Bronze Mounted Mahogany Low Table with a Grey Marble Top.

This table has a rectangular grey marble top above a frieze with a central drawer with a fine gilt-bronze plaque depicting putti at play, flanked by ribbon tied swags.  The table is raised on four tapering square section legs headed by ribbon tied foliate mounts.

The quality of the gilt-bronze mounts on this table and the fine definition of the central plaque suggest that it was made by one of the finest Parisian makers of meubles de luxe. Based on neo-classical principles adopted by Jean-Henri Riesener in the 1770s the form and decoration are very similar to two tables in the repertoire of François Linke, namely index numbers 118 and 441, both early models available before the 1900 Paris exhibition.

French, Circa 1890.
