L’estacade du quai de Southampton au Havre.

Oil on Canvas.

Artist - Jean Dufy.

Signed.

Jean Dufy was the younger brother of the celebrated artist Raoul Dufy. He was associated with the Fauvist movement. He spent his childhood in Le Havre and returned there throughout his life. The current painting was painted in 1929.

Following his military service between 1910 and 1912, Jean moved to Paris and grew acquainted with Derain, Braque, Picasso and Apollinaire. He settled in Montmartre where Georges Braque was his neighbour and flourished in the artistic atmosphere of the era.

The Grand Palais in 1920, 1923, 1924, 1927 and 1932, Galerie Bing in 1929 and Balzac Galleries in New York put Jean in the public eye for the first time. He became an internationally renowned artist with frequent exhibitions in Paris and the USA.

His work is on display in many museums, including the Pompidou Centre in Par-is, The Albertina Museum in Vienna, the Art Institute of Chicago and the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
