Lemania Royal Navy Chronograph.
Series 1 steel chronograph issued to the Fleet Air Arm of the Royal Navy. Manual wind movement with second and minute recording. Screw back engraved H.S. 9 – 3957.
Between 1945 and 1970, the Royal Navy’s Fleet Air Arm was issued with Lemania chronograph wristwatches. Series 1 (c. 1945 – 1950), Series 2 (c. 1950 – 195) and Series 3 (c. 1957 – 1970). Helicopter pilots and pilots of Sea Harriers, stationed on the aircraft carrier Ark Royal were typically issued with Lemania’s. All watches from Series 1 to 3 were signed “Lemania” on the dial except the earliest examples of the Series 1 watches, which had an unsigned “sterile” dial. Few sterile examples are left, and the dial on H.S.9 – 3957 is unrestored and original. The case retains its fixed bars which were often replaced at a later stage with flexible spring bars. The case has some minor nicks and blemishes but has been left unpolished to preserve its character. The movement is the non-shock-protected 15-line calibre which is in excellent overall condition. 39 mm. The watch is supplied with an aftermarket beige canvas strap.
