A faded mahogany late Victorian freestanding pedestal writing desk with important provenance.

The desk has an inset leather writing surface. Nine drawers on one side and three drawers over cupboards on the opposing side.

This desk belonged to the late Sir David Maxwell-Fyfe who was an eminent lawyer, politician and judge. He was the deputy British prosecutor at the Nuremburg trials. Later he was instrumental in drafting the European Convention. He held office as Lord Chancellor 1954 - 1962 and later became the first Earl of Kilmuir.

This is the very desk he worked at.
