Late 17th Century Cushion Framed Wall Mirror.

A Delightful And Relatively Large Late 17th Century, William And Mary Period, Laburnum Oyster Veneered, Cushion Framed, Wall Mirror Retaining Excellent Rich Colour And Patina To Rectangular Frame Enclosing Original Bevelled Mirror Plate.

This charming wall mirror is of a design commonly seen towards the end of the 17th century with a substantial cushion frame design. The frame is veneered with lovely laburnum veneers, some of which are oyster cut, which in combination with the fact it retains a lovely rich colour creates a wonderfully decorative feature.

Another great feature is that it is a really good size for a mirror of this style and design. Roughly speaking it is around 50% larger than the majority of similar ones which we have previously found or come across and that of course allows it to have great presence in a room, although the relatively simple design means it is not overpowering in any way whatsoever.

The softly bevelled mirror plate, which we believe to be original, is in excellent condition with just some minor silvering and pitting marks. When inspecting the reverse of the frame it appears that the back has never been disturbed, or removed and put back, which is what leads us to surmise as to the plates originality. It is nice to find a wall mirror of this type with a mirror plate which is still perfectly functioning.

It's also worth noting that the mirror can be hung portrait or landscape, it looks great both ways, so its entirely the owners choice.

As with all items which we offer for sale this 17th century mirror has been inspected and attended to in our workshops and received a natural wax polish before being offered for sale to ensure it is ready for immediate placement within the home or office.
