A rare late 15th/ early 16th century English elm leather and iron bound standard. Circa 1500.

This rare English valuables chest is in remarkable original condition complete with fragments of its original leather coverings beneath the ironwork, also traces of original polychrome. Originally used to house valuable treasures possibly in a church. 

Original locks, hasps and carrying handles. A wonderful and substantial example of a late English medieval valuables chest.

Provenance: from a private Sussex collection.
