Ziegler Sultanabad carpets were originally commissioned in Persia for the Western market during the late 19th Century, to complement European furnishing tastes. Their unique, grand scale drawing, quiet formality, and understated colours made them sought-after additions in stately homes across the UK and Europe.

This finely woven Ziegler carpet, with short pile in lustrous wool and gracefully aged natural vegetable dyes, features a restrained palette, with a rare sage green field overlayed with repeating floral motifs rendered in shades of pomegranate, grey, muted duck egg blue and ivory, framed by a tasteful border of great proportion. The artist has opted for a well balanced, open composition, with a large scale drawing reflecting modern aesthetic sensibilities. This piece has developed a tasteful patina adding to its overall charm.
