Woven in the Persian city of Tabriz, circa 1880 this remarkable enormous antique Tabriz carpet has the famous 'Ardabil' design and once lived within the boardroom of the Bank of England.  The quality is exceptional, being woven to the highest quality, usually spared for small rugs.  With this quality of weaving but in this enormous size, the weavers have created one of the most jaw dropping carpets we have ever seen.

The overall condition is superb, a couple of small repairs at the fringes (pictured) and at some stage a plant pot leaked in a small area, which damaged the pile, this area has now been professionally repaired by the best restorer of this type of carpet in the world and has been returned it to its original form and looking fabulous.

Obviously this would have been made for a commission when first manufactured - the size is enormous and suits the design so well.  The original 15th century 'Ardabil' carpet is now in the Victoria and Albert museum in London,  Queen Victoria having been advised to buy it for the county by William Morris.

This most famous design has been copied on many occassions - in fact an Ardabil design carpet resides under the dining table within No 10 Downing Street.

We believe this to be one of the best antique Tabriz 'Ardabil' design carpet currently available on the market, and in this rare enormous size would undoutably be impossible to find again.  Please contact us for more information or to arrange to see this in situ or at our showroom in Surrey.
