Large Tabriz carpet.
The city of Tabriz in the North West region of Persia has been a major centre of rug weaving since the 14th century and as heir to such a long tradition, no other rug producing region in Persia can claim such a wide array of designs or pattern types.
A handsome Tabriz carpet dating circa 1940 with creative design characteristics borrowed from earlier weavings of the 17th century. The drawing is pleasantly spacious in relation to its format. The light terracotta background compliments the array of natural vegetable colours that have aged nicely. The rare ivory borders is generous in width and frames the field beautifully.
A decorative Tabriz carpet with the versatility to blend in a variety of interior styles.
