Large sized pugilist commemorative pitcher showing the Mendoza fight.
Dated: 1820 Sunderland England.
The large scale pink luster pottery pitcher is decorated with transfer prints and an inscription "Dick Young champion of Patfield against Franklin of Patfield for 50 a side".
The primary transfer is a copy of the famous print of the Mendoza- Humphrey Fight, another the Bridge over the River Wear, and one showing the arms of the Grand Union of Odd Fellows, which also included the name of Dixon & Co. Sunderland Pottery.
The jug is in remarkable condition indicating the piece was kept as a prized memento for many years. It is exceptionally rare probably unique.
Dimensions: 10.5 inches high 12 inches long.
Current Condition: Remarkably fine condition with no restoration.
