A large silver plate carving trolley or roast beef trolley by Erguis

The domed, hinged lid opening to reveal the water-heated carving plate set with two compartments for gravy, also with an interior shelf for carving knives and other utensils.

All set in a frame with two large handles, an oil burner below, a side hinged plate stand and a further utensil tray, raised on four gadrooned scrolling legs with wheels, stamped ‘Erguis, 800’.

Silverware from Ercuis belongs in the luxury class of silversmith’s art. It was founded in 1867 and is named after the small French village in the region of Oise.
