For sale is this remarkable large Edwardian silver heart shaped box that opens out into three compartments. It is a very clever piece of design and workmanship and whilst not my usual arts and crafts staple, I thought it warranted a place in the Collection on merit! I only wish I had found it before Valentine’s day, but you can’t have everything. It is made by Phillip Hanson Abbott of his firm P H Abbott & Co. He established himself in the Edwardian period as a top maker, often of novelty and arts and crafts items, and often retailed through Asprey (operating from c 1908-1924).
The box is in excellent condition and a good gauge of silver. The makers mark is quite rubbed but legible.
