An important and exceptionally large free-standing three part mahogany partner's desk in the Chippendale manner. The top has a later hand gilt tooled leather inset, framed by a fine cross-banded border. The adjustable reading slope is also finely cross banded. The carved Greek key pattern design conceals six oak lined drawers. The pedestals incorporate six drawers each retaining the original lion masked gilt-metal handles. The corners of the pedestals are cantered with a fluted design. The sides have the most wonderful veneers of mahogany and within each large roundel sits a most impressive brass carrying handle. Condition: Good, some replaced locks. Circa 1770.
