Large Italian maiolica charger, 17th century, Deruta, with an elaborate moulded pattern of flutes and gadroons, decorated in the centre with birds and hounds below a castle, the cavetto with birds, hares and hounds among fruiting foliage, with two bands of scrolling foliage and flower heads around the inner and outer rims.
This charger would have originally been used as a ewer stand.
