Large graduated pair of Chinese famille rose sleeve vases.
Yongzheng (1723-35).
Each with a leaf-shaped cartouche containing a landscape with pine, pagodas and mountains visible in the background. The bodies of the vases also decorated with an assortment of vessels containing flowering branches of peony, finger fruit and peaches scattered at their feet.
The rims with cracked-ice pomegranates and foliated red cell ground palmates with peonies, ruyi heads and leafy scrollwork in gilt below a pink diaper band and brown glazed rim.
A baluster vase with the same decoration can be found in the collection of the National Trust at Lanhydrock, Cornwall (NT 881043).
