Large George II Walnut and Gilt Wall Mirror.

An Extremely Attractive Large Early 18th Century, George II Period, Walnut Mirror, Having Extremely Well Figured Shaped Fretwork Frame, With Central Set Giltwood Carved Cartouche To Top, Over Replacement Rectangular Bevelled Mirror Plate, Flanked By Gilded Carved Trailing Husks To Each Side.

This early 18th century mirror is of good size, a reasonable amount larger than most of this design which are found from this period. Indeed with its additional size to the norm and its boldly figured veneers it was certainly designed to make somewhat of a statement in its original hanging place.

Now of course it has mellowed wonderfully and boasts a lovely warm patina and surface. The gilding also remains in relatively good condition and has a lovely old lustre to it.

The actual mirror plate itself has been replaced at some point in the not to distant past, which of course makes it functional and its nice that when replaced previously the owner went to the trouble of putting a nicely bevelled piece of glass in place.

There are a few minor old breaks and repairs to the frame, but certainly nothing of consequence or concern and these are all historic, having been well repaired.

As with all our objects this Georgian Walnut Mirror has been inspected by our highly skilled, trained antique furniture restorers and received a natural wax polish before being offered for sale. That means it is in good condition and ready for immediate placement within the home following purchase.
