A Large Arts and Crafts late 19th century Liberty & Co Moorish Mirror of excellent quality.
English 1880.
This had to join the collection as it is one of the best examples I have seen along with great scale to this stylish Liberty mirror inlaid with mother o’pearl, bone and ebony parquetry. The glass plate within a complex lozenge and zig-zag inlaid frame with mashrabiyyah panels.
The style of decoration was common to North Africa right through the Mediterranean to Syria and became very fashionable towards the end of the 19th century where it was adopted by the Aesthetic and Arts and Crafts movements. Liberty’s led the fashion as the major retailers of the period.
This example is first class and usually large, the fine turned grilles are known as mashrabiyyah work.
This looks amazing again a white wall and will work in both a traditional setting and a contemporary setting.
