Kate Harris silver cafe au lait set.

For sale is this wonderful, elegant, cafe au lait set by Kate Harris, made by William Hutton & Sons and as featured in the Studio Journal.  See images.  In excellent condition, the cafe aul lait pot has its original mother of pearl handle.  The design is Harris so called “ivy pattern” with registration number 352424. The sugar and creamer have handles augmented with mistleto leaf design. The cafe au lait also incudes this motif in the drop down handle to the lid, in a wonderfully inventive and stylish design.

The cafe au lait and sugar are fully assayed for London 1901, the creamer for 1902, and the sugar carries the design registration mark 352424.

Condition is excellent, with just a slight looseness to the mother of pearl handle.

An example of this set was reproduced in the Studio journal Volume 24, October 1901 page 60 – see images.  The Studio wrote “The silver-work designed by Miss Kate Harris and executed by W. Hutton & Sons, is gracefully conceived and executed…

Kate Harris was employed by the London studio of William Hutton & Sons to produce artistic silver from 1899 to c 1905.  Harris was one of the very few women, or British exhibitors, to win recognition at the 1900 Paris International Exhibition.
