Kate Harris silver art nouveau canister.
A Kate Harris silver canister or cylindrical box, made by William Hutton & Sons. It is fully assayed for Birmingham 1902. The design is classic Harris with sprigs of flowers (primrose?) with the lid carrying classic Harris art nouveau organic design. The jar is in excellent condition, quite highly polished with some of the marks partially rubbed, though still readable.
Kate Harris was employed by the London studio of William Hutton & Sons to produce artistic silver from 1899 to circa 1905. Harris was one of the very few women, or British exhibitors, to win recognition at the 1900 Paris International Exhibition.
