Chinese Export Famille Verte Openwork Dishes.

A Pair.

Kangxi.

Circa 1700.

The circular Chinese Export porcelain dishes with openwork cash border are unusually painted in "Famille Verte" with stylized plants and flowers emanating from a central roundel with a sunflower head center- top and bottom are yellow flower heads and to the left and right are red ones, their leaves linking and surmounted by another flowing stem. The openwork circles on the border alternate from a painted green to an iron-red.

Dimensions: 8 1/4 inch diameter x 2 inches height.

On one there are two sections of the openwork with a crack that has been invisibly conserved.

Reference: A similar form plate is illustrated in Christiaan. J. A. Jorg, 'Famille Verte: Chinese Porcelain in Green Enamels', 2011), p. 48, pl. 40. According to Jorg this type of rim originated c. 1700 and was probably produced for the European market.

An identical form dish, a bequest of J.G.A.N. de Vries, The Hague, 1925, is illustrated by Christiaan J.A. Jörg in Chinese Ceramics in the Collection of the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam, no. 169, p. 156.
