Blue Ground Early 18th Century Chinese Famille Verte Plate. Made during the reign of the Emperor Kangxi for export to Europe at The kilns at Jingdezhen.
The Central square panel shows two figures on a rocky river promontory with a small jetty looking across to the opposite bank where there is a retreat and pagoda with pine trees.
Small gold sun in the sky with a skein of geese.
The figures represent a Confucian scholar and his attendant
The cavetta is painted with four shaped panels of famille verte decoration to show four of the noble flowers.  The blue ground shows some of the original weak Chinese gilding that was applied when decorated in China. Chinese gilding was weak and very easily rubbed off as seen on this plate in some areas
Very pretty plate and unusual Square panel
