This exceptional English gilt bronze carriage clock has an 8-day movement which strikes the hours and quarters on two gongs. The substantial numbered movement is secured to the case with four L-shaped brass brackets. The thick plates are joined by baluster shaped pillars which mirror those of the dial feet. The going train has an English lever escapement with gold balance and maintaining poser. The movement has a rack striking system for sounding the hours and quarters on a pair of coiled blued steel gongs.

The matt gilt dial is profusely decorated with engraved foliate scrolls, strapwork and six foliate cartouches coming from the centre of the Roman chapter ring with a minute band and a pair of quatrefoil blued steel hands. The clock is wound set and regulated through the solid shuttered rear door which is signed on the inside John Moore and Sons, Clerkenwell, London 13480.

The substantial elegant gilt bronze case is surmounted by a facetted carrying handle set over a large bevelled glass viewing panel and side panels. It has canted front corners with ‘sparrow beaks’ and is stands on a plinth base.
