John Green, Philadelphia: A Small American Fusee Bracket Clock.
A small bell-top bracket clock standing only twelve inches high.
The square brass dial has cherub- head cast brass spandrels to the corners, a raised silvered chapter ring engraved with black Roman numerals, engraved with floral decoration to the silvered dial centre along with the maker's name John Green, Philadelphia; with decorative blued steel hands.
The timepiece, fusee movement has arched plates, tapered movement pillars and a verge escapement.
The case has a brass carrying handle to the top, brass bracket feet and brass fretwork to the sides.
John Green is recorded as working as a clockmaker in Philadelphia before 1794 until at least 1796 and may well have been the maker of the same name known working in Boston from the latter date.
