A fine Japanese Satsuma circular jar and cover (Circa 1880) signed Ryozan.
From our collection of antique Japanese ceramics, this fine Satsuma jar and cover standing on tripod feet and with wraparound decoration depicting a Shrine complex. Noblemen and women, pilgrims and visitors stand around the grounds of the complex amongst ancient fir trees under a delicately painted, cloudy sky. The lid and neck are decorated in muted tones with patterns inspired by Kimono fabrics along with depictions of Katana, fans and auspicious items, whilst the foot has a red and gold swirling design.
