A Japanese meiji period carved wood and lacquer okimono of the famous flute player Fujiwara no Yasumasa, based on the wood block print by Yoshitoshi.

From our collection of Japanese, Meiji-era (1868-1912) wood carvings, this characterful Okimono group depicting the famous flute player Fujiwara no Yasumasa and the bandit, Hakamadare Yasusuke.

The scene is based on the wood-block print by Yoshitoshi.

As in the legend, the depiction of Fujiwara no Yasumasa is wearing elegant robes whilst the ferocious bandit, Hakamadare Yasusuke is preparing to wield his Katana.

Offered in fine condition as shown in the photographs. This Okimono group is 44cm in height at the tallest point and 39cm across. Please don’t hesitate to contact us for further information or to arrange a viewing.
