Japanese Imari charger, 18th century, the central roundel containing a watery landscape scene; a rocky islet in the foreground with a small dwelling amongst flowering trees and plantain, beside a waterfall and pine growing from the rockface; a further outcrop of land with mountains and trees visible in the distance; the wide cavetto with three roundels containing banded hedges, blossoming trees, plum, wisteria and bamboo amongst rockwork; against a richly decorated ground of white cloud with flowering chrysanthemum, dianthus and grasses in iron red, blue and gilt; the rim with six alternating cartouches containing palmate leaves and birds in flight amongst clouds, against a band of stylised lotus leaves and small flowerheads, the reverse with three sprays of plum and bamboo, a narrow petal band in iron red between circles in underglaze blue and six spur-marks to the base.
