Japanese bronze hare (usagi 兎) seated with his forepaw raised to its chest in an alert attitude, signed with incised characters Shiho 紫峰, Taisho/Showa Period c.1940. 

The Hare is the fourth sign of the Japanese Zodiac and is considered to be a symbol of luck and fertility.
