A superb James I carved oak coffer; of boarded construction the one piece top opens to reveal a candle box in the right hand end; the front boldly carved with three large roses separated by palmettes and with a lunette border above and a guilloche motif below; unusually the coffer retains its original apron which is carved with a lunette motif. This early coffer is in an exceptional state of preservation; the lock is original, the hinges are original and unusually it retains its original carved apron.
