THE LION AND THE UNICORN ARE SYMBOLS OF THE UNITED KINGDOM, THEY ARE HERALDIC SUPPORTERS APPEARING IN THE ROYAL COAT OF ARMS OF THE UNITED KINGDOM. THE LION STANDS FOR ENGLAND AND THE UNICORN FOR SCOTLAND, BROUGHT TOGETHER ON THE ACCESION OF JAMES I OF ENGLAND.

THIS FINE PAIR OF CORBEL/BRACKETS WOULD HAVE ADORNED A DOORWAY TO A GREAT HALL OR ENTRANCE TO A HIGH STATUS HOUSE.DEEPLY CARVED IN ENGLISH OAK, AMAZINGLY THE UNICORN STILL RETAINS ITS ORIGINAL HORN, SLIGHT WEAR AND LOSSES AROUND THE UNICORNS MOUTH. A VERY POWERFUL PAIR OF JACOBEAN SCULPTURES.
