An Italian Giltwood Mirror Carved With Allegorical Figures Of The Continents And The Seasons.
The rectangular mirror plate has a lapped inner running border framed by an exuberant pierced scrolling acanthus and C-scroll outer border which is populated with playful putti representing the continents and the seasons. The cresting rail is richly carved in similar fashion with C-scrolls and opposing putti beneath a plinth supporting a putto with an outstretched arm against a sunburst backdrop with wheat sheaves, rock roses and various foliate devices.
Italian, Circa 1860.
