Allegories of the Greek Gods Eros & Erato, An Italian Carved Sculptural Group.
Carved from a single block of Carrara marble, the winged putti cavorting together, one playing a trumpet and the other a tambourine. With a pan flute at their feet and quiver with arrows among roses. The circular base bearing the artist's monogram "AM."
Italian, circa 1900.
In Greco-Roman mythology, putti are spiritual beings, depicted as plump children with wings. They are associated with Eros/Cupid the god of Love, as well as Erato, the goddess of lyric and love poetry.
