Elegant IRISH GEORGE III sterling silver skewer.
Maker: John Shields. Dublin 1804.
Engraved beneath the ring is a contemporary family crest of MOORE showing a Moors Head facing left with a crescent engraved on the neck and a bandana around the forehead. The crescent indicates that the crest belongs to a second son.
The very clear hallmarks and makers mark are stamped on the reverse of the skewer. Although originally these skewers were used while cooking a roast, today they make excellent letter openers and this one would be particularary useful for that purpose.
Length: 12.5 inches (31.75cm)
Weight: 3.25 troy ounces (101 grams)
