A fine Irish George II carved mahogany side table of compact proportions, retaining excellent colour and patina. The well figured top of rectangular form with moulded edge to 3 sides. The scrolling frieze with central carved shell with emanating trailing acanthus leaves and flowers extending outwards toward the legs. The table stands on cabriole legs with carved shells to the hips with a neat c-scroll edge with further leaf carving to the ankle and supported by a paw foot. A lovely piece of excellent compact proportions in fine apparently original condition.

Further Information: This table follows closely the format of similar pieces illustrated in The Knight of Glin and James Peill’s book “Irish Furniture”. The central carved shell is one of the most popular decorative features of Irish furniture of this period.

Condition: Excellent. Possible minor old restorations, waxing.
