The four panel lid, with heavy run moulded frame, above a three panel front. The top rail, carved with deep nulling, which is repeated in the muntins which separate the panels.

The panels contain a carved lozenge motif with a stylised running chain border, often found on furniture from South Gloucestershire/Wiltshire.

From the broad stiles to the deep rails, it is very evident that the joiner who made this chest was not short of timber. Superb colour and surface.

Gloucestershire, circa 1630.
