An Impressive Carved Giltwood Mirror In the Régence Style.

Of generous proportions, with effusive carved details, the central bevelled glass surrounded by an outer reserve of mirrored panels, the frame carved with scrolls, floral garland, pendants below and a mask of Apollo flanked by shells at the crest.
French, circa 1870.

French Régence furniture, emerging during the early 18th century, is defined by its elegant, curvaceous forms and use of floral motifs. This mirror is prime example of the transitional influence between Baroque and Rococo styles.
