This exceptional piece stands on a circular pedestal foot which is decorated with a tied laurel leaf and berry band.  The foot rises to a campana shaped main body decorated on the lower section with foliate motifs and trailing vines.

The upper section displays an unusual frieze of thistles on a  matted ground, within a linear frame.  The front also displays a horse race scene with detailed jockeys, all in high relief. The reverse shows a raised crossed branch cartouche engraved with LOUTH COURSING Society, Novr 16th 1829.

The beautiful side handles display the height of Regency design, with ribbed sides and acanthus leaf mouldings where they are attached to the main body.  The top of the handles are decorated with raised Classical flower heads in roundels.  The domed, pull-off, cover has an egg and dart rim and rises to a lobed band.

The cover terminates in a very finely modelled dog, almost certainly a greyhound.  This piece is in excellent condition and is fully marked on the main body and the cover.  The foot is also, unusually, engraved with the designers name and address, I.L TUCK 8, HAYMARKET FECIT.

This piece is of a most unusual design and is modelled in the high Regency Classical revival manner, seldom seen on the market.  As well as being an important display piece, it could be used as a wine cooler once the cover is removed.
