An Important service of antique silver-gilt, By Elkington & Co, Birmingham 1889.

Each piece bearing hallmarks for Elkington & Co, Birmingham 1889. The centrepiece bowl also signed "Elkington & Co on the foot.

Made under the direction of Elkington’s lead designer Auguste Willms.

Comprising centrepiece on mirror plateau 115cm long, 71cm high, 48cm wide (overall).
Pair of five light candelabra 56cm high.
Pair of large comports 31cm long, 15cm wide, 19cm high.
Pair of small comports 22cm long 15cm wide, 19cm high.
Pair of Vases 20cm high.
Pair of ewers 49cm high.
Weighing in excess of 1000oz of silver.

A number of Elkington & Co's designs survive in the Archive of Art and Design, The Victorian and Albert Museum, London. There are drawings for a number of pieces in this garniture, which are illustrated in the Elkington Design Books. The ewers, which are described as claret-jugs, are the central illustration, numbered 15867, of the Elkington Design Book, vol. 9, folio 157 (AAD3-1979-PL27, f. 157).
