An Important French Mantle Clock in the Louis XVI manner.
Constructed in bronze, patinated and gilt; the rectangular form case supported on engraved oblate spherical feet, the frieze dressed with a row of female masks capping pillars, linked with ribbands, from designs by Percier & Fontaine; seated on a richly embroidered bolster, the classically draped female figure, emblematic of Victory, proffers a laurel wreath, with an anchor and the caduceus of Mercury alongside; the eight day movement strikes the hours on a bell, the 9 inch white enamel dial having the hours delineated in Roman numerals, and indicated with blued steel hands.
