An important and beautiful George II Gold mounted Etui made in London circa 1745.

This exceptional gold box has a slightly tapering rectangular form with a shagreen exterior inset with gold bead work, scrolls and symmetrical patterns.

The front and reverse, also displays a very unusual gold cartouche in relief depicting the interiors of Classical temples, surrounded by floral garlands and flanked by two Classical column frames.

The hinged cover is also inset, on both sides, with a scroll, shell and floral spray cartouche. The sides display vertical and horizontal reeded gold girdles and the cover a gold suspensory ring on a chased gold platform.

The gold thumb piece opens the hinged cover to reveal the gold lined, beautifully fitted, interior, containing five implements, including a ribbed gold pencil container, gold bodkin, pair of scissors with gold finger rings, pair of tweezers and a folding knife with gold and tortoiseshell handle, unusually inset with perfect filigree, scroll, shells and trellis work.

It is extremely unusual to find this design of etui from this early date, especially in such outstanding condition and with a complete interior.
