Hester Bateman Silver Tea Caddy Spoon 1784/5 London.
A good late eighteenth century tea caddy spoon made in 1784/5 by Hester Bateman of London. The spoon is beautifully bright cut engraved with a shell bowl and struck with the head of George III in an incuse punch which was only used in 1784/5 (Tax at sixpence an ounce was levied from late 1784 onwards to help pay for the American Wars and then doubled to a shilling in 1797 to help government finances against Napoleon ). The caddy spoon is in good condition.
