Henry Macrae - London. 19th Century rosewood Sympiesometer.
Circa 1850
Good quality and unusual, mid 19th Century, rosewood-cased, ‘Improved’ Sympiesometer; the “ogee” pediment over finely engraved silvered brass register plates, protected by glass cover, bearing Fahrenheit thermometer and sympiesometer tubes, manually-operated vernier slide and circular register plate to the base.
The main plate signed by the maker with the address: “Opposite Aldgate pump”.
MacRae was a highly competent instrument-maker, who specialised in marine pieces, working from various premises in The Royal Exchange and Aldgate from 1833-85.
