A very good quality late 18th century Georgian mahogany Ladies Writing Table, having well figured top with original brass gallery and one frieze drawer to end, plus two false drawers raised on elegant square tapering legs.

" Stamped Gillows, Lancaster "

This delightful table has several unusual features including its delightfully small size and the original brass gallery to the top.

It also has one long drawer to the end which of course from a practical perspective means that if being sat the user would not be in their own way when attempting to open the drawer.

It is also nice to see the false drawer fronts to the front and opposite end which is a feature designed to make it look elegant no matter where somebody chooses to position in own a room.

The back is neatly finished and veneered as well which means it is perfect for central standing.

The elegant brass handles are probably later replacements, but are through the original handles holes and of the style that would have been in place originally as are the replacement brass castors.

Finally the table is of course stamped Gillows of Lancaster whom are one of the most famous English furniture makers in history.
